Dear friends of Four Winds. This is the last newsletter before our meeting of September 22, 23 and 24. The Pow-wow is an original event which has, over the years, become an important date in the cultural life of Lausanne. The aim of the first event was to offer a folkloric show, inspired by what the Natives organize in North America. Each year, the Four Winds team has widened the cultural aspect of the program, so's to bring about a reflection about the life of Native Americans, yesterday and today. This year, without dropping the pow-wow part, which meets the desire of children and of unconditional folklorists, we wanted to offer a wide panorama of the indigenous cultures of the Americas. Our wish is to offer you a passport to "other worlds", through a number of shows, movies, lectures, ceremonies and traditional tribal dances. Many of you have crossed the Atlantic, have driven through reservations and attended large pow-wows where hundreds of Natives danced in full regalia. But what have you really learned about the people whose often sacred land you have crossed? We propose to visit with you, during three days, different aspects of "indianhhood", to try and understand what it is in those people which arouses in us such strong and intense interest. We will mainly let the Natives express themselves. Our Indian friends and ourselves will be happy to welcome you at the Aula des Cèdres, avenue de Cour 33, Lausanne where the even will take place. All the details about the events (complete program) and our guests can be found on our website www.4winds.info The Four Winds committee |
