The purpose of Four Winds is to promote knowledge and better understanding of the native people of North, Central and South America.

The purpose is also to work for the awakening of respect of their inalienable rights and protection of their environment.

Each step of Four Winds must be done with respect (of the members amongst themselves and towards the Natives), with tolerance and humility.

The relationship between each member and the Native Americans has to be an open one, communication being the best way toward mutual understanding.

Any information to the public concerning the Natives or any other subject related to our association will be based on facts that are established, checked and known (in particular regarding traditions and cultures).

Four Winds encourages the division of work and creative imagination among its members.

Four Winds will abstain from taking any political stand on behalf of the Natives.

After over a year of brainstorming, the ethics commission has the pleasure to present the two following texts:

1.- The basic European ethical principles that can guide the members of 4Winds in their relationships with others in general and with our Native friends in particular. 4WINDS ETHICAL CODE PDF

.

2.- The traditional ethical principles of Native Americans, (as written down by the University of Lethbridge, Alberta, with the help of native elders and spiritual leaders), which will help us to better understand what their basic values are. NATIVE AMERICAN TRADITIONAL CODE OF ETHICS PDF

We wish you to meditate and compare those two texts. It will help you develop more harmonious, more respectful and more enriching relationships in your upcoming inter-cultural meetings.
